Why check mobile separately
Your mobile rank isn't your desktop rank
Google indexes the mobile version of your site first, and the mobile results page has its own layout: more SERP features, bigger local packs, more video and "People also ask" boxes. The same keyword can put you at #4 on desktop and #9 on a phone, which is the difference between real traffic and none.
- Mobile-first indexing: Google ranks pages based on how they look and load on mobile.
- Different SERP features: local packs, carousels and AI Overviews push organic results further down on small screens.
- Different winners: fast, mobile-friendly pages can outrank stronger desktop pages.
How to
How to check mobile keyword rankings
- Add your DataForSEO API login once. It stays in your browser.
- Enter your website and keywords, one per line. Hundreds are fine.
- Pick a country or city. Mobile is already selected; switch to Desktop to compare.
- Run the check to get live mobile positions and ranking URLs, then export to CSV.
Tip: run the same list on Desktop straight after, and compare the two CSVs. The keywords with the biggest gap usually point to a mobile usability or page-speed problem.
FAQ
Mobile rank checker FAQ
Why are my mobile and desktop rankings different?
Google builds separate results pages for each device. Mobile pages carry more SERP features, local results and video, and Google weighs mobile usability and speed, so positions often shift by a few places or more.
Which device does Google use to rank my site?
Google uses mobile-first indexing: it crawls and evaluates the mobile version of your pages. Desktop results still exist, but your mobile page is the one that matters for indexing.
Can I check mobile rankings for a specific city?
Yes. Pick a city from the Market list, or choose a custom location code for any city or region Google supports.
How much does a mobile rank check cost?
The same as desktop: about 0.2¢ per keyword when you rank on page one, and up to about 2¢ when you're not in the top 100, billed by DataForSEO. There's no subscription.
Know your rank where people actually search.
