What "rank" means in ChatGPT
ChatGPT has no page two, just an order of mention
ChatGPT doesn't show ten blue links. It writes an answer that names a few brands, usually in order of how strongly it recommends them. So this tracker reports three things for each prompt:
- Mentioned: whether the answer names your brand or domain at all.
- Position: where you appear among your brand and the competitors you list. "#1" means you were named before all of them.
- Cited: whether ChatGPT linked to your website as a source, the strongest signal it trusts your content.
Add 2 to 5 competitors to get a position. Without competitors, you still see mentions and citations.
How to track it
How to track your ChatGPT rankings
- Add your DataForSEO API login. Prompts are sent to ChatGPT through DataForSEO's AI Optimization API, with web search on.
- Enter your brand, website and category, plus a few competitors.
- Write up to 10 prompts the way a customer would ask them, or click Suggest prompts.
- Run it again every few weeks. ChatGPT's answers vary from run to run, so export the CSV and compare trends, not single answers.

Can you track rankings in ChatGPT?
Not like Google positions, because ChatGPT writes an answer instead of listing results. You can track whether it mentions you, where you appear among the brands it names and whether it cites your site, across the prompts that matter to you.
Which ChatGPT model does it use?
A current GPT model through DataForSEO's AI Optimization API, with web search switched on so answers reflect live sources, like ChatGPT search.
How much does a check cost?
